While this book is aimed at children, it's a must read for anyone! It perfectly defines and discusses the many ways we understand consent and bodily autonomy。 I think this would be so important for kids to read and help them understand how their body and their choices belong to them, but I urge anyone who knows a kid, works with kids, has kids, etc。 to read this。 Breaking the cycle and stigma behind boundaries and consent starts with adults letting kids know from an early age that they have the While this book is aimed at children, it's a must read for anyone! Do you remember the Tea Consent video from a few years back? Yes, it was brilliant。 And so is this book on consent for kids。 How does Rachel Brian know exactly how to explain consent to children so they understand it in an appropriate way AND so they laugh? I don't know。 She's a genius。 My 4-year-old understood the grave parts and the humorous parts, and I think older children would, too。 This is pretty corny, but after reading this with my son, I felt like Rachel Brian was part of my "village"。 Do you remember the Tea Consent video from a few years back? This book does a fantastic job of explaining various nuances related to consent in a way kids will understand。 For example, using swimsuits near the pool as a way to talk about how we can't make judgments about what someone is comfortable with based on the clothing they wear。 It's comprehensive without being alarming。 This book does a fantastic job of explaining various nuances related to consent in a way kids will understand。 For example, using swimsuits near the pool as a way to talk about how we can't make judgments about what someone is comfortable with based on the clothing they wear。 It's comprehensive without being alarming。 。。。more

I cannot explain how fabulous the "Tea Consent" video is for me as a sex educator - I use it all the time when teaching consent。 There's no difference in my level of excitement surrounding Consent (for Kids!): Boundaries, Respect, and Being in Charge of YOU by Rachel Brian!

my favorite read together consent book。 It's a good introduction。 It doesn't go deep but it's good and approaches the basic idea of consent from many different angles without being too intense or scary。 It's great so kids grasp the ideas of body boundaries and how to ask for, respect and make their consent (or lack of consent) known。 my favorite read together consent book。 It's a good introduction。 It doesn't go deep but it's good and approaches the basic idea of consent from many different angles without being too intense or scary。 It's great so kids grasp the ideas of body boundaries and how to ask for, respect and make their consent (or lack of consent) known。 。。。more

Written by Rachel Brian, co-creator of the ingenious YouTube video “Tea Consent”, this absolutely vital book couldn’t explain consent any clearer。 Consent (for Kids!) is a kind of graphic novel–picture book hybrid, with big, bold wording and simple but cute drawings。 As suggested by its title, the audience is kids, but considering how few adults fully understand consent and how many trample on children's boundary-setting, they need to read it too。Brian covered things such as boundary-setting, gr Written by Rachel Brian, co-creator of the ingenious YouTube video “Tea Consent”, this absolutely vital book couldn’t explain consent any clearer。 Consent (for Kids!) is a kind of graphic novel–picture book hybrid, with big, bold wording and simple but cute drawings。 As suggested by its title, the audience is kids, but considering how few adults fully understand consent and how many trample on children's boundary-setting, they need to read it too。Brian covered things such as boundary-setting, grooming, trusting your gut, giving and getting consent, and more。 Stress is on the message of “your body is yours” and the idea of “bodily autonomy,” which Brian illustrated with a scenario showing a child offering a high-five as an alternative “when Aunt Gladys says: ‘Come here! I want to pinch & kiss those cheeks!’” This was important to include。 A book about consent isn’t complete if it doesn’t specifically address the phenomenon of children being forced to be physically affectionate with relatives (or others) that they don’t want to be physically affectionate with。 In discussions of consent, this aspect often gets dismissed or overlooked。 It’s the one that gets an exception because it concerns family or because feelings would get hurt。 But society as a whole cannot sincerely expect boundary-setting to come easily in life when it teaches children early and often that their body isn’t their own, that they should “be polite,” that how they feel matters less than how others feel。 Consent (for Kids!) is essentially about not being a people-pleaser。 Setting boundaries and saying no can feel uncomfortable or make a situation awkward。 Brian’s book is a self-esteem and confidence booster that reassures readers that that is ok。 Lessons need to start young and then be reinforced for beneficial, permanent change to take place on the larger level。 This book is a step in the right direction。 。。。more

Yes, yes yes! The most important thing is my child liked it and understood it。 And wanted to reread it。 It's not scary or explicit, yet is very frank。I appreciate the book's explanation that not everyone respects boundaries and sometimes folks get upset when you change your mind- but these things aren't your (a child's) fault or responsibility。 All the information is accurate and easy to understand。 The art style and humor are fun。 There's a short list of resources in the back。 I wish there was Yes, yes yes! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! This explains consent so clearly。 We have to practice giving consent, but equally important, we need to practice LISTENING FOR CONSENT。 This book reinforces many important things - you can change your mind! Outfits do not equal consent! Using power to get someone to agree is not getting consent! “When an adult is inappropriate with a kid it’s always the adult’s fault。” Consent over digital property is equally important!

Excellent for children, this book helps to teach about consent - what is okay and what is not, to set personal boundaries, and that it is fully appropriate to say "NO" if someone crosses those boundaries。 Very nicely illustrated with lots of easy to understand information that is gently presented。 Excellent for children, this book helps to teach about consent - what is okay and what is not, to set personal boundaries, and that it is fully appropriate to say "NO" if someone crosses those boundaries。 Very nicely illustrated with lots of easy to understand information that is gently presented。 。。。more

This book does a really great job of explaining the concepts of consent, bodily autonomy, and boundaries in a way that kids can understand, while also being entertaining。 It helps kids understand how to set their own boundaries and teaches about healthy relationships, which are both important skills for kids to learn。 My six-year-old and eight-year-old both loved it。 This book is a must for any parent who what to teach their children what consent means and how to set healthy boundaires。

Visually engaging guide for kids (and adults!) about consent and boundaries。 Talks about what consent is and is not, how to find safe people, how to be empathetic and respectful of other's boundaries as well。 Light enough for adults to get through it before passing it on to the kiddos。 Emphasizes that it's okay for your boundaries to change。Repeats several times that if adults do not respect your boundaries it's not your fault, which I think is vitally important。 The book also talks about the im Visually engaging guide for kids (and adults!) about consent and boundaries。 Talks about what consent is and is not, how to find safe people, how to be empathetic and respectful of other's boundaries as well。 Light enough for adults to get through it before passing it on to the kiddos。 Emphasizes that it's okay for your boundaries to change。Repeats several times that if adults do not respect your boundaries it's not your fault, which I think is vitally important。 The book also talks about the importance of consent in emotional situations (like having mean "friends") and how to figure out if a relationship is healthy or unhealthy。This was a really good book! I think it's easy for you-and-your-body type books to feel awkward or cringey, and this one didn't。 It's inclusive enough for all kids/preteens--several of the comics have a stick person in a wheelchair, which was a nice touch。 。。。more

I love this book。 My daughter didn't want to read it but I assigned it as part of our school day and she definitely laughed out at least once。 And when I said, "hey, I loved that book - what did you think?" her response was "no comment" as she laughed so she liked it too。The content can be difficult to cover but this book does it wonderfully with pictures and words。 There are sections on hugs, tickling, strangers, etc showing both what consent looks like and what it doesn't。 Also, at the beginni I love this book。 My daughter didn't want to read it but I assigned it as part of our school day and she definitely laughed out at least once。 And when I said, "hey, I loved that book - what did you think?" her response was "no comment" as she laughed so she liked it too。The content can be difficult to cover but this book does it wonderfully with pictures and words。 There are sections on hugs, tickling, strangers, etc showing both what consent looks like and what it doesn't。 Also, at the beginning they specifically point out that the book is for "you" whoever you are and that the drawings don't have noses so obviously they're not trying to represent a specific person/group。 。。。more
